It was cold. (at Max Patch Mountain) March 27, 2016 Share Short URL TwitterFacebookPinterestGoogle+ Zoom adobney-movies: A Walk in the Woods SUMMARY: In this comedy adventure, Robert Redford & Nick Nolte star as old friends who make the improbable decision to hike the 2,190–mile Appalachian Trail, and that’s when the fun begins. REVIEW: I was interested in this movie, 1. because I enjoy hiking on the Appalachian Trail and 2. because I thoroughly enjoyed the book. In the end, the book is MUCH better than the movie. I did appreciate the beautiful scenery of the AT, and the culture created along the AT was very real to what I experience(d). If you were not interested in hiking or the AT, however, you may find the movie a little dull. Now, he’s sure he’ll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he’s alive—and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won’t have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plain-old “human error” are much more likely to kill him first. But Mark isn’t ready to give up yet. Drawing on his ingenuity, his engineering skills—and a relentless, dogged refusal to quit—he steadfastly confronts one seemingly insurmountable obstacle after the next. Will his resourcefulness be enough to overcome the impossible odds against him? REVIEW: I’m a sucker for survivalist, one-man, lost-in-wilderness stories, and this did not disappoint. It was definitely a new take on those types of stories… The amount of detail used to describe the situations that the main character faced, and how he attempted to overcome them, was quite remarkable. Enjoyed this novel thoroughly. Review: Really enjoyed this movie. Typical Tarantino with extended dialogue sessions and excessive violence, but also a great story. The characters were all portrayed very well, and I was sucked in right away. Also helped that the cinematography was quite beautiful. I felt as if I were right there with the characters. This episode contains strong language.” Read more and listen to the podcast here. This podcast episode has come up in conversation a few times over the past few weeks. Very well done in presenting both sides to the argument. I will honestly say that I do not have a strong feeling towards either side of the argument, but I definitely learned a lot about this whole sphere.
